Design Trend Alert of 2019: Cool & Edgy Colour-Blocked Walls You Have To Try At Least Once!

Updated: Oct 8, 2020

I love a good colour blocking moment. Something about seeing this wall paint/treatment/feature trend thrive for the past few years is a testament to its emotive power. There's an attitude to it that just speaks to me too: playful and unconventional; bold and confident; simple yet undeniably chic. It makes a strong case for individuality and freedom- and I am here for ALL of it in 2019!

So, as a tribute to this gorgeous trend, I've round up some of my favourite colour blocking looks to inspire you in your next DIY home project:

I love how these built-ins/corner wall areas in bright, punch-y colours immediately draw the eyes in, highlighting those quirky and interesting details.

And what's not to love about a bathroom vanity wall with the case of, well, vanity..

Such a fun way to section off the sink, console, mirror, and ledge/shelves. It's these unexpected colour schemes and playful shapes that really drive the design towards an edgy direction. Not for the faint of heart, but oh, the rewards you reap!

On a budget but want a smashing minimalist artwork that's not only unique, but customisable? Why not try creating a mural! And in random geometric shapes and forms? Why the hell not!

Awkward, oft-forgotten corners of the house, like hallways, stairwell, corridors, are in desperate need of bright spots too! What's great is that you don't even need to paint the whole wall to create a dramatic tableau.

Peep that green baseboard, and the way these hexagonal tiles play off with the two-tone effect on the wall? Trés chic! Oh, and let's not forget that moulding detail framing the door as cherry on top either. Impeccable design is in the little details!

These colour blocked niches and alcoves look ultra cozy and sophisticated at the same time. Wouldn't mind staying for hours in here either.

What do you think of this trend? Worthy of all the hype, or something you yourself would be brave enough to try? Let me know in the comments below!
